Cyprus unveils online platform to modernize medicine pricing process

Officials say digital rollout will improve efficiency and ensure fairer access to treatments.

Cyprus rolled out a digital platform designed to overhaul how the government sets prices for medicines, a move officials say will bring greater speed, accuracy and transparency to the process.

Health Minister Michalis Damianos, announcing the launch at a news conference in Nicosia, said the system replaces a paper-based procedure with an online tool that handles every step, from applications by pharmaceutical companies to approvals and final price lists.

“This marks an important shift in the way we manage pharmaceutical pricing,” Damianos said. “It will streamline submissions, reduce delays and ensure fairer pricing decisions.”

Officials said the platform was built for use both inside the ministry and by industry stakeholders. Drug makers will be able to file requests electronically, track the progress of their applications in real time and avoid the burden of submitting documents in print or through email.

For regulators, the system is expected to improve oversight, increase consistency and support data-driven decision-making. Damianos added that the platform also advances the ministry’s broader goal of giving patients faster access to affordable, high-quality medicines.

The ministry said dedicated support teams will help companies adapt to the new system. Damianos described it as a “living platform” that will continue to evolve with user feedback.
