Cypriot entrepreneur Kostas Cleanthos, known locally for his acquisition of the country’s leading newspaper, Phileleftheros, and internationally for founding global trading platform XM, is charting a new course, this time on the high seas.
Cleanthos is set to add two luxurious 72-meter yachts to his portfolio, based on the final designs approved by the late fashion icon Giorgio Armani before his passing earlier this month. Built by Italy’s The Italian Sea Group under the Admiral brand, these yachts merge top-tier shipbuilding with the clean, timeless style that made Armani a global design legend.
“The presentation of the first yacht at the Monaco Yacht Show is already creating a lot of buzz,” reports local media, highlighting the interest from international investors and luxury yacht enthusiasts. The first vessel is already in its sea trials, while the second is in the final stages of construction.
Designed for world travel, the yachts combine cutting-edge technology with Armani’s classic aesthetic, geometric exterior lines, sleek curves, and interiors reflecting his signature elegance. They promise not just luxury, but the freedom to sail anywhere on the planet.
For Cypriots, Cleanthos’ ventures are particularly notable. Born and raised on the island, he studied at the London School of Economics before building an international business empire. Alongside his media and financial investments, he has also funded hotels and social projects in Cyprus, including plans for a state-of-the-art Pediatric Oncology Clinic in Nicosia.
“This move into luxury yachting highlights Cyprus’ presence on the global business and lifestyle stage,” said a local industry expert. “It’s not just about yachts; it’s about putting Cyprus on the map for international investors and luxury design.”
While Armani is no longer with us, these yachts stand as a lasting testament to his design vision, now sailing under the Cypriot flag thanks to Cleanthos’ ambition.
