Cyprus weather: A ''winter'' that Europe would envy

Sunshine, showers, and a touch of snow—our island’s version of winter keeps things interesting without going overboard.

Newsroom

While the rest of Europe battles icy winds, sub-zero temperatures, and a constant existential crisis over whether to wear three layers or four, Cyprus is doing its own version of winter—mild, moody, and just dramatic enough to remind us it's still February.

Today, expect a mix of sun, clouds, and the occasional surprise shower, like the sky can't quite decide what mood it's in. Some lucky areas might even get a thunderstorm, while Troodos will see snowfall, just in case anyone needs a proper winter fix. Temperatures will reach 14°C inland, 17°C along the coast, and a brisk 4°C in the mountains—perfect for a snowball fight if you're feeling adventurous. The sea will be a bit rough, so maybe save that refreshing swim for another day.

Tonight, the clouds will stick around, possibly bringing a few more scattered showers, especially by the coast. If you're heading to the mountains, bundle up—it’ll drop to -2°C up there, with frost settling in like an uninvited guest who won’t take the hint.

Looking ahead, Thursday starts off moody but clears up by noon, and by Friday, the sun will be back in full force, ready to remind us that Cyprus doesn’t do "real" winter for too long. By Saturday, we’re back to business as usual, with only a few decorative high clouds to keep things interesting.

Meanwhile, Troodos remains our island’s tiny winter wonderland, with 12 cm of snow at the square—just enough for a proper Instagram photo, but not enough to justify calling in sick for a ski day.

So, grab an umbrella just in case, but don’t pack away your sunglasses either. This is Cyprus, after all—winter here is more of a suggestion than a rule.
