UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacekeeping Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, has wrapped up her visit to Cyprus and is continuing her regional contacts, with stops in Athens today and Ankara on Thursday.
During her two-day stay on the island, DiCarlo met with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, focusing on the next steps for the Cyprus issue. Talks centered on preparations for an informal meeting in a broader format, as the UN pushes to revive dialogue between the two sides. Speaking after her meeting with Christodoulides, DiCarlo described the discussion as “very constructive,” confirming that preparations are underway for a Geneva meeting set for March 17-18.
Beyond political leadership, DiCarlo also met with women’s groups, emphasizing that inclusive peace efforts are not just a matter of fairness but a smarter way to achieve lasting solutions. She urged leaders to engage more actively with civil society and incorporate diverse perspectives into the peace process.
With her visit to Cyprus completed, DiCarlo is now in Athens for further discussions on Cyprus and other regional developments, before heading to Ankara on Thursday as part of the UN’s ongoing diplomatic efforts in the Eastern Mediterranean.
