And now for something completely different.
A seasonal low-pressure system is currently affecting the area. It has not ceased to be, it is not resting, and it is most certainly not pining for the fjords. It is right here, sitting on the island, being thoroughly low-pressure-y.
Today opens mostly clear, though by the afternoon, locally increased cloud cover will develop over the mountains, carrying the faint, lingering suspicion of an isolated shower.
Here is how the temperature is being parcelled out to the peasantry today:
Inland plains: Reaching 35°C. A right scorcher.
West coast: Sitting at a respectable 31°C.
Remaining coastal areas: Hovering around 34°C.
Higher mountains: A brisk 25°C, though you may get rained on by a passing cloud of dubious intent.
The morning starts with light, variable breezes at Force 3, barely enough air movement to carry a coconut via a European swallow. By afternoon, winds swing southwest to northwest at Force 3 to 4, picking up to a rather cheeky Force 5 along the southern coast. The sea will remain slightly rough.
Tonight, the weather drops down on its knees and becomes mainly clear. Winds will drift from the northwest to northeast inland, while the northern coast gets a gentle light breeze from the southeast at Force 3. The sea settles down nicely to calm or slightly rough.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: Mornings will start mainly clear, but afternoon clouds will build up again. If you are standing in the mountains on Tuesday or Wednesday, an isolated shower might drop on your head. Temperatures will gradually rise over the next few days, pushing well above the seasonal climatic averages.
