A local man has been arrested after he was chased by police Monday night in Nicosia, following a complaint by his father who reportedly said his son became violent over money.

According to police, a 37-year-old male from Nicosia was arrested in connection with a domestic violence case which is under investigation.

Police told Knews they could not share details citing the nature of the compalint, but additional reports said the suspect had threatened his parents with violence in order to get money from them.

One report said the son warned his mother and father in Geri, Nicosia district, that he was going to harm them physically if they failed to agree to give him money.

Law enforcement officers who responded to the call rushed to the suspect’s residence, with the man reportedly running away and police going after him.

The suspect reportedly resisted arrest, wounding two officers who were rushed to the Emergency Room at Nicosia General Hospital where they were treated for injuries.

Latchia police station is investigating the case where possible charges could include public disorder, insulting a police officer, and attacking an officer on duty. It was not clear whether the suspect, who is known to authorities, would face any additional charges.
