Police have caught up to a man suspected of attempting to set admissible evidence on fire at CID Nicosia last week.

According to local media, a 21-year-old male was arrested Thursday morning in connection with an arson attempt last week on CID Nicosia premises, including a room where officials speculate the suspect was hoping to burn court evidence.

The alleged incident was said to have taken place last week, September 12, when an unknown suspect entered a fenced area in Strovolos that belonged to CID.

Reports said the man, who had his head covered, was caught on camera trying to burn the place down with a gasoline canister.

The arson attempt had failed while the man ran away leaving behind burglary tools, according to police. Reports also said a number of service vehicles had been parked in the area which was targeted by the failed attempt.

The suspect was set to appear in court on Thursday for his remand hearing.
