The application period for the Digital Agenda Alpha stage Artificial Intelligence Competition has been extended. Kyriakos Kokkinos, the former Deputy Minister of Innovation, made this announcement on "SPOR FM 95.0" during the "news drill" show. Initially, the deadline was set for September 10th, but due to high interest, it has been extended to September 16th.
This competition aims to encourage startups and teams from Cyprus, the surrounding region, and other countries to showcase their innovative projects, which should be at a technology readiness level of 3-5. It's open to startups and groups working on creative solutions in tourism, media, education, or well-being, with plans to enter the global market and attract investors. The winning startup or team will receive a €10,000 prize at the Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit.
Mr. Kokkinos mentioned that they've already received interest from Cyprus, Greece, Israel, and the United Kingdom. He will present the top four proposals and announce the results on October 17th during the Alpha stage.
Regarding the technology scene in Cyprus, Mr. Kokkinos noted the rapid growth of artificial intelligence. He mentioned that Cyprus has become a regional technology hub, with approximately 12,000 locals and 19,000 foreigners engaged in technology-related work. He encouraged young people to explore innovative technologies and highlighted Cyprus's strong position in the European Innovation Index, ranking 10th in Europe and first in southern Europe.
