A dog was killed in an accident in rural Limassol on Tuesday, when a motorcycle struck the animal as it was crossing the street.
Local media said a 29-year-old male was riding his motorcycle on Tuesday evening in the Paramytha area, Limassol district, when he got involved in an accident around 7:20pm.
According to police officials, the local man was riding his motorcycle in a built-up area when a dog was attempting to cross the road.
The motorcycle struck the animal and ended up on the median after the rider lost control of the handlebars.
Police said the dog died at the scene while the rider was rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital, where he was treated for a shoulder fracture as well as cuts and friction burns.
Local authorities have been unable to ascertain the identity of the canine’s owner, with media reports saying the dog did not have a microchip.
Police officials could not provide immediately any descriptions of the dog or motorcycle.
