Dozens of phones and drugs seized in central prisons

Stricter inspections since January target contraband and visitor checks.

Authorities say a large number of banned items have been seized from the Central Prisons over the past four months, including mobile phones and illegal drugs. The findings come as inspections have become more frequent and more detailed, covering both the interior of the facility and checks on visitors entering the premises.

The Ministry of Justice stated that these stricter controls have been in place since January 1. The goal is to stop contraband from entering the prison and to maintain safe and orderly conditions.

A legal change approved in February made it a criminal offense to bring in, possess, use, or attempt to bring mobile phones or other prohibited items into the prison. The law applies not only to inmates but also to visitors and any other individuals involved. Staff members who take part in such actions face especially severe penalties.

Officials from the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, together with prison management, say that any attempt to smuggle banned items will be dealt with firmly, leading to prosecution and possible prison sentences.
