Police in Nicosia rushed to a tense scene Thursday afternoon after reports of a man armed with a shotgun inside a building and threatening another person.
The incident unfolded around 12:15 p.m. in the Omorfita area. Officers from the local police station, backed by the rapid-response OPE unit and Team Z, quickly arrived at the building. They found the suspect holding a shotgun.
Police say officers managed to approach and disarm him before anyone was hurt. The 54-year-old Nicosia resident was arrested on the spot.
Authorities say he faces charges including carrying a weapon to incite terror, threatening violence, and illegally transporting a loaded hunting rifle. Police confirmed that the shotgun was ready to fire, with a live cartridge in its chamber.
The man is now in custody as investigators from Omorfita Police Station continue their inquiries.
