Hunting gun licenses to be revoked for certain convictions

New rules target domestic violence and cannabis offenses.

Newsroom

The Ministry of Justice and Public Order has introduced an amendment that broadens the range of crimes that can strip individuals of their right to hold a Category G8 firearm license, which covers hunting rifles.

Under the new rules, people convicted of offenses related to violence against women, domestic abuse, or the production and trafficking of industrial cannabis will be barred from possessing these firearms.

Convictions trigger a 10-year prohibition, either starting from the date of sentencing or from release from prison.

The amendment extends existing restrictions that already prevent those convicted under domestic violence and narcotics laws from obtaining or keeping a Category G8 license, aligning firearm eligibility with public safety concerns.
