Police launched multiple investigations into drug-related and other illegal activities after receiving information earlier this year from Paphos Mayor Phedon Phedonos, authorities said Wednesday.

The mayor met with two police officers June 4 to hand over evidence and details linked to suspected criminal cases. Police later confirmed some of the material provided produced evidence of offenses, leading to ongoing probes.

The same information was also presented by Phedonos in a meeting Tuesday with the president of the Republic.

In response to allegations of drug trafficking in schools, the police’s Anti-Narcotics Unit said it has opened 12 investigations since January. Those cases led to 12 arrests, including minors, following operations near school grounds and in other areas frequented by young people.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the investigations but said the cases remain active.
