Giant pothole opens near Khirokitia, mud and debris create mess elsewhere

Larnaca officials point to a number of trouble spots in the district’s road network following overnight rainfall, warning drivers to be careful at all times.

According to Kathimerini Cyprus, a number of roads have been severely affected by debris and mud, while in one case a big pothole has appeared on the old Nicosia-Limassol road near Khirokitia (Choirokhoitia) village.

The big road hole, which has been demarcated by officials according to photos posted by Reaction Cyprus, is estimated to be about three metres deep. Drivers are asked to be extra cautious if they must drive in the area.

Reports also said a section of the Zygi-Kiti coastal road, with starting and ending points at Alaminos and Pentashinos, were closed to traffic due to debris and mud on the asphalt.

Reports said weather conditions over the area included overnight rain throughout the district, but some trouble spots were affected significantly.
