Police are investigating a traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle that occurred Friday evening in the Deryneia area.
A 53-year-old man driving the car was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The motorcyclist, a 32-year-old man, was taken to Famagusta General Hospital with injuries and later released.
According to a statement from the Police Communications Branch, the collision happened around 8:30 p.m. on a road in Deryneia when the car struck the motorcycle ahead of it. The motorcycle then crashed into the wall of a nearby residence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the car had overtaken the motorcyclist just before the crash. When the motorcyclist questioned the driver about the dangerous maneuver, the driver allegedly threatened to hit him.
Police conducted tests at the scene. The 53-year-old driver registered a blood alcohol level of 77 micrograms per 100 milliliters of blood, exceeding the legal limit of 22 micrograms per 100 milliliters. He was arrested on the spot.
The motorcyclist suffered a clavicle injury and minor arm wounds. After treatment at the hospital, he was discharged.
The Deryneia Police Station continues to investigate the incident on charges of reckless and negligent driving causing a traffic collision and driving under the influence.
