A midnight police patrol in Ayia Napa resulted in the arrest of two men after an altercation that left a police officer assaulted.
The incident began in the early hours of Friday morning when patrolling officers noticed two individuals creating a public disturbance. One man was carrying a wooden club while the second held a glass bottle.
When officers approached the men to intervene, one of the individuals, who was visibly intoxicated, escalated the situation by physically pushing a member of the police force. Officers immediately took the man into custody for the assault.
Authorities arrested both men on charges of possessing offensive weapons in public. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspects are scheduled to appear in court today, where prosecutors will fast-track the formal filing of the case.
