Dusty skies and strong winds ahead

Temperatures to peak around 34°C inland

Newsroom

Today, a weak low-pressure system will cast a dusty haze over the region, with concentrations temporarily rising before easing by late afternoon. Expect mostly clear skies, but keep an eye out for increasing clouds in the interior and southeast later on. High clouds will also make a brief appearance. As the day progresses, low clouds will gather over the west and north coasts.

Winds will shift from southwest to northwest, with early southeastern gusts blowing weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening to 4 to 5 Beaufort, and reaching a formidable 5 to 6 Beaufort on the south coast by afternoon. Sea conditions will range from slightly rough to rough, particularly in the east and other coastal areas. Temperatures will peak around 34°C inland, 31°C on the southeast and east coasts, 26°C on the west coast, 29°C on other coasts, and a cooler 25°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, look for increased cloudiness in the west and north, while the rest of the area remains mostly clear. Winds will stay southwest to northwest, blowing weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and occasionally strong on the windward coast at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will stay a bit turbulent, with rougher conditions along the coasts. Temperatures will dip to 18°C inland and along the south, north, and east coasts, 21°C on the west coast, and a chilly 12°C in the higher highlands.

Friday brings a mix of sun and clouds, with occasional showers and a chance of an isolated storm in the southeast during the afternoon. Strong to very strong westerly winds will sweep through the area. Saturday starts off clear, but afternoon clouds may lead to isolated showers, especially in the mountains. Sunday looks mostly clear, with clouds increasing after noon.

Expect a significant temperature drop on Friday, falling below average seasonal values, but a gradual warm-up by Sunday.
