An elderly man from Paphos died in hospital Wednesday night following a road accident where he suffered a head injury after veering off the main road to Polis Chrysochous.

According to police, 81-year-old Andreas Argadjiotis was driving on the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous main road on Wednesday afternoon around 2pm, when he was involved in an accident.

Based on details of the crash in a police report, Argadjiotis appeared to have lost control of the steering wheel under circumstances still pending investigation. His vehicle reportedly veered off the road, striking the guard rail and then crashing into a field. Media reports also said some trees were cut off as a result of the accident.

Argadjiotis was rushed to the Emergency Room at Paphos General Hospital where doctors said he had sustained a head injury. Due to his serious condition, he was then transferred to Nicosia General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 9pm.

Paphos Traffic Police and the local station in Stroumbi are jointly investigating the accident.
