Electronic student registration system faces major flaws

Children of immigrants registered with incomplete or unverified data.

Serious issues in the operation of the electronic student registration system were raised by the Parliamentary Education Committee. Committee Chairman Pavlos Mylonas (DIKO) cited a "lack of coordination" and the registration of students without sufficient or accurate information.

Following the session, Mylonas specifically pointed to problems involving children of immigrants, noting that the system automatically registers them despite many being accompanied by “fictitious parents” whose legal guardianship status is not verified. He also expressed disappointment over the absence of the Deputy Ministry of Migration from the session. Mylonas questioned what happens to these children and their parents, many of whom are in the country illegally.

DISY MP Prodromos Alampritis said the gaps and weaknesses revealed this year must be identified and promptly addressed to prevent similar problems in the next school year. He added that the issues cause concern and require an immediate response from the Ministry of Education.
