On Tuesday evening, the European Parliament announced the election of 14 new Vice-Presidents following two rounds of voting by MEPs.
In the initial round, 701 MEPs cast votes, with 665 deemed valid. To secure election, candidates needed at least 333 votes for an absolute majority.
The results of the first round saw 11 Vice-Presidents securing the required votes:
- Sabine Verheyen (EPP, Germany) received 604 votes
- Ewa Kopacz (EPP, Poland) received 572 votes
- Esteban Gonzalez Pons (EPP, Spain) received 478 votes
- Katarina Barley (Social Democrats, Germany) received 450 votes
- Pina Picierno (Social Democrats, Italy) received 405 votes
- Victor Negrescu (Social Democrats, Romania) received 394 votes
- Martin Hojsik (Renew, Slovakia) received 393 votes
- Christel Schaldemose (Social Democrats, Denmark) received 378 votes
- Javi Lopez (Social Democrats, Spain) received 377 votes
- Sophie Wilmes (Renew, Belgium) received 371 votes
- Nicolae Stefanuta (Greens, Romania) received 347 votes
Candidates failing to secure a majority proceeded to a second round of voting:
- Antonella Sberna (Conservatives, Italy) received 323 votes
- Roberts Zile (Conservatives, Latvia) received 306 votes
- Younous Omarjee (Left, France) received 272 votes
- Klara Dostalova (Patriots, Czech Republic) received 214 votes
- Fabrice Leggeri (Patriots, France) received 209 votes
- Ewa Zajaczkowska-Hernik (Europe of Sovereign States, France) received 102 votes
In the second round, 674 MEPs voted, with 609 votes being valid. A minimum of 305 votes was required for election by absolute majority.
The following candidates achieved an absolute majority and were elected:
- Roberts Zile (Conservatives, Latvia) received 490 votes
- Antonella Sberna (Conservatives, Italy) received 314 votes
- Younous Omarjee (Left, France) received 311 votes
Candidates who did not secure election in the second round were:
- Klara Dostalova (Patriots, Czech Republic) with 116 votes
- Fabrice Leggeri (Patriots, France) with 177 votes
- Ewa Zajaczkowska-Hernik (Europe of Sovereign Nations, France) with 46 votes
