A rare and dramatic natural event unfolded yesterday in the Mackenzie area of Larnaca, as powerful winds drove seawater far beyond its usual boundary, covering large portions of the beachfront.
The intense weather conditions caused waves to surge inland, reaching several meters past the shore and flooding areas typically untouched by the sea. Water extended across the sandy beach, encroaching on nearby restaurants and other beachfront establishments.
Eyewitnesses, including a few patrons at local restaurants, observed the phenomenon with astonishment as the water advanced toward their seating areas. While there were no immediate reports of damage, the spectacle left many puzzled by the unusual force of nature.
This remarkable incident was captured on video and shared on the "Weather Enthusiasts of Cyprus" Facebook page, drawing more than 1000 reactions.
