A farmer in Paphos has filed a report with the police, accusing another man in the area of stealing some 300 kilos of avocado worth half a grand.

Police have received a complaint from a 54-year-old man in Nikoklia, a village in the southwestern part of Paphos district, accusing a 36-year-old male of stealing 300 kilos of avocados from his field, worth around €500.

The farmer did not have proof but told police that he saw the suspect in the past picking fruit without permission

The man did not have proof but told police that he saw the suspect in the past collecting avocados without permission. He said he had not reported him to police at the time, according to the complaint.

But on Monday, the farmer became aware that large quantities of avocado had been stolen from his trees, turning his suspicions on the suspect, described as a European citizen living in the local area and on the island permanently.

Police detained the suspect on Monday but he was then released. He is expected to face charges at a later time.
