Two brothers aged 30 and 20 have been remanded in custody for six days by the Limassol District Court in connection with an attempted murder that took place in central Limassol last month.

The case regards an attack on a 36-year-old man on the evening of 20 December 2025, when he was assaulted while sitting at a café on Independence Street. According to investigators, a group of individuals targeted the victim, first using electric stun devices before one of the attackers stabbed him with a sharp object.

The injured man was rushed by ambulance to a private hospital in Limassol, where doctors found he had suffered a serious wound to his left shoulder blade.

The two brothers had been sought by police following the incident and were eventually arrested on 3 January after attempting to flee by sea. Their capture followed a high-speed maritime pursuit near Ormidia by the British Bases Police of Dhekelia. They were later handed over to the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department, where they were questioned before being brought before the court on Wednesday.

Authorities are also searching for the suspects’ father, who is believed to have helped arrange the boat used in the attempted escape.

Police are investigating multiple offences, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, causing grievous bodily harm, and the illegal carrying and possession of weapons.

The investigation remains ongoing.
