The court emphasized the severity of the crime, stating that acts of violence against children are unacceptable and will be met with strict legal consequences.

Chilling message sent after the incident
According to "court" findings, after attempting to strangle his son, the father sent a message to his wife stating, "I killed my son." The premeditated nature of the crime and the defendant’s lack of remorse were cited as aggravating factors in the sentencing.

The incident
The case dates back to June 9, 2024, in the Marmara area of Nicosia. The accused, who claimed to suffer from psychological issues, attempted to strangle his child using a bathrobe cord he had obtained from a hotel in Kyrenia. Believing he had taken the boy’s life, he fled the scene.

Fortunately, the child survived, and authorities were alerted to the crime. Following the trial, the court sentenced the defendant to 25 years in prison, reflecting the serious nature of the offense.
