The father of a three-year-old boy who died in Paphos will face criminal prosecution after the attorney general reviewed the evidence gathered during the police investigation.
According to police, the 37-year-old man will be prosecuted for causing death through a reckless, negligent, or dangerous act under the relevant provisions of Cyprus’ Criminal Code.
The case was registered before the Paphos District Court, where the trial has been set to begin on July 31 at 10 a.m.
The father was released on €20,000 bail, while his travel documents were surrendered to police as part of the conditions imposed to ensure he remains available for the court proceedings.
According to information from the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the decision to proceed with criminal charges is reportedly linked to the findings of toxicology tests carried out during the investigation.
The three-year-old boy’s death shocked the community and led to an extensive police investigation, with authorities examining the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and collecting statements from those involved.
