A stretch of Larnaca coastline that had become the center of complaints over illegally placed caravans and structures was cleared early Tuesday morning after authorities moved in with police assistance to remove the unauthorized setups.
The operation took place near the Larnaca Nautical Club, following a final warning issued by the Interior Minister calling on those occupying the beach area without permits to leave.
Authorities said the move came after the Larnaca District Administration had served notices and issued a final ultimatum to people who had placed caravans and other constructions on the beach without permission.
By the morning hours, four caravans had already been removed and seized, while large rocks were placed at the entrance to the beach to prevent large vehicles from returning to the area.
A similar operation is expected to follow at a nearby beach, where illegal wooden huts had reportedly been built along the shoreline.
The issue had sparked public reaction in recent weeks, with complaints focusing not only on the unauthorized occupation of public coastal land but also on cleanliness, hygiene concerns, and the difficulty for other residents and visitors to freely access the beach.
The operation comes as authorities face growing pressure over the use of Cyprus’ beaches, with residents repeatedly raising concerns about private individuals taking over public spaces that are meant to remain accessible to everyone.
