Fire crews responded Saturday evening after a blaze broke out at Lycavittos Elementary School in Nicosia, causing minor damage and prompting an investigation into the cause.
Authorities said the fire started under circumstances that are still under investigation. It broke out in an area of the school undergoing construction. Initial reports suggest burning polystyrene insulation material may have sparked the fire.
Four fire engines were dispatched to the scene. The blaze was quickly brought under control and did not spread to the building’s interior. However, the exterior paint on two classrooms was damaged.
Fire officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
