The completion of the Nicosia Peripheral Highway project will ensure seamless and continuous traffic flow between western Nicosia and Larnaca, as well as Limassol, via the Nicosia-Limassol motorway, according to Lefteris Eleftheriou, Director of the Public Works Department, in a statement to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
Eleftheriou highlighted that the first phase (A1) of the Nicosia Peripheral Highway, inaugurated today, connects the Nicosia-Limassol motorway to the Tseri roundabout. This phase facilitates uninterrupted vehicle movement from Limassol to Nicosia through the overpass leading to Tseri Avenue, and onwards to the broader western Nicosia area, as well as from western Nicosia towards Limassol and Larnaca.
He added that the project includes two more phases. Phase B3, which will begin at the government housing estates in Anthoupolis and extend to the existing Deftera road, has already been tendered. The tenders are expected to be submitted by September 20, with evaluations and contract awards planned by the end of the year.
The next phase, Phase C, will connect the existing Anthoupolis interchange to a new interchange in Ergates. This phase is expected to be tendered in the first quarter of 2025.
Eleftheriou reiterated that upon completion, the highway will enable continuous traffic between western Nicosia and both Larnaca and Limassol via the Nicosia-Limassol motorway.
He also noted that the central median strip of the newly delivered phase will be landscaped between September and October, depending on weather conditions.
According to the Public Works Department, Phase A1 covers approximately 7.5 kilometers of motorway, linking the existing Nicosia-Limassol motorway (A1) with Tseri Avenue, along with 10 kilometers of connecting roads to restore links with the existing road network. It includes an overpass near the Idalion Industrial Area for access to the Nicosia-Limassol motorway in both directions, a bridge connecting the old Nicosia-Limassol road (B1) with the A1 motorway, an overpass near the Tseri Industrial Area, and a level terminal roundabout at the junction of Tseri/Pefkou Avenues.
