Five men have been arrested over an armed robbery in Limassol in which a couple were restrained inside their own home while intruders stole cash and jewelry, police said.

The arrests were made Tuesday, Oct. 20, following an assessment of evidence gathered during the investigation. The suspects are ages 29, 27, 25, 24 and 20.

According to the couple’s complaint, intruders entered their home at around 3 a.m. on Oct. 8 and restrained them before taking €5,000, $1,000, and gold jewelry valued at more than €100,000.

The reported circumstances describe a frightening invasion of the place where people expect to feel safest: their own home, in the middle of the night.

During a court-authorized search of the Limassol residence where the five suspects were staying, officers seized clothing and tools believed to have been used in the robbery, police said.

The men are expected to appear before Limassol District Court, where police will seek an order to hold them in custody while investigations continue.

Limassol CID is continuing its investigation.
