Five men accused in a terrorism-related case have been committed for trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca, with proceedings scheduled to begin on October 14.
The defendants, aged 32, 33, 38, 41 and 54, appeared before the Larnaca District Court on Thursday in a closed hearing. The court ordered that all five remain in custody until the trial begins.
A lawyer representing the 54-year-old defendant objected to his client's continued detention, but the application was dismissed.
The five men face a total of 15 charges. These include conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to murder, participation in a criminal organisation, terrorism offences, providing support to a terrorist organisation and money laundering.
According to the prosecution, investigators are examining alleged links between the defendants and a terrorist organisation. The case also centres on allegations that planned activities were directed at Israeli interests in the Republic of Cyprus.
The fifth defendant was added to the case in mid-July. The 41-year-old third-country national was located in an Asian country and brought to Cyprus following a coordinated operation by the authorities.
Investigators are examining his alleged involvement in the case, along with possible contacts and connections believed to be relevant to the ongoing investigation.
The allegations remain before the courts and have not been proven.
