In a decision made today by the Famagusta District Court, the five suspects involved in the alleged rape of a 20-year-old tourist on September 3rd in Agia Napa will remain in custody until the commencement of their trial, scheduled for October 5th.
Following a request by the public prosecutor, the Famagusta District Court ordered the detention of the five individuals, aged 20 and 19, until the start of their trial next month.
It is worth recalling that on Monday, the Court referred the five foreign suspects directly to the Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta, which is set to convene on October 5th.
The five individuals are facing charges related to rape, sexual assault by penetration, forced sexual intercourse, coercion into engaging in sexual acts or other sexual offenses, indecent assault against a woman, sexual harassment, and abduction.
The 20-year-old tourist reported to the police that she had been a victim of rape by a group of individuals at a hotel in Agia Napa.
Evidence has been secured against the five individuals, two aged 20 and three aged 19, who were subsequently arrested.
The case is currently under investigation by the Famagusta District Police.
