Police detain three suspects linked to shooting at security guard and torching of cars.

A dramatic police operation at dawn Tuesday led to the arrest of a 23-year-old foreign national in connection with an attempted murder and arson attack in Pyla earlier this month.

On August 14, two masked men drove a stolen vehicle to a car rental yard in Pyla. One fired at a private security guard, who escaped unharmed, while the other doused vehicles with flammable liquid and set them on fire before fleeing.

Authorities said the suspect faces charges including conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, arson, and illegal possession of firearms and explosives. He is expected to appear in Larnaca District Court Wednesday for a detention hearing.

Two others are already in custody: a 27-year-old Syrian man accused of directing a 19-year-old to steal the getaway vehicle and a 44-year-old convict identified as the mastermind behind the theft. Police are examining mobile phones seized during the arrests for further leads.

Officers described the case as “very serious” and said the investigation remains active, with evidence being collected that could result in additional arrests.
