Cameroonian Charles Eloundou faces deportation while due to testify in forgery case.

Newsroom

Former footballer Charles Eloundou is being held at the Limnes Pre-Departure Detention Centre for Migrants over an unresolved issue with his residence permit, with deportation proceedings now underway.

The 31-year-old, who previously played for Anorthosis, Nea Salamina and Ethnikos, had reached an agreement to continue his career with ASIL Lysis for the 2026-27 season.

His plans to remain in Cyprus are now uncertain following his arrest over the residence permit matter.

Eloundou is also due to appear as a key prosecution witness in a serious forgery case before the Famagusta District Court. The case has already been registered, with the hearing scheduled for September 22, 2026.

His detention and the pending deportation process therefore come as he awaits a court appearance in a case in which his testimony is expected to be significant.
