Police in Larnaca are investigating a report that a five-year-old child was taken from a beach by an unidentified man on August 18.
According to information under investigation, the child was on a sun lounger when the man approached and picked the child up. He then reportedly attempted to leave the beach carrying the child.
The child's mother realised what was happening and pursued the man. He is understood to have abandoned the child before running away from the scene.
Police were subsequently informed and have begun gathering evidence and taking statements from people who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant information.
Investigators are continuing their efforts to establish exactly what happened and determine the identity of the man involved.
