Former Metropolitan Tychikos was released Tuesday from the Athens hospital where he had been receiving treatment since last Thursday, following a series of medical examinations. Supporters announced in a video that the cleric will soon consult two cardiac surgeons for further evaluation of his condition.
Father Evangelos Papanikolaou, who accompanied Tychikos throughout his hospital stay, said preparations were already underway to meet with the specialists. “If they tell us something must be done immediately, we’ll see; if not, he will return to the island to attend the Synod, as the Patriarch of our nation sent him,” Papanikolaou noted.
He added that the former metropolitan spent his time in prayer and declined offers of financial assistance for his hospitalization. “Many people wanted to visit or contribute to his expenses, but those offers were not accepted,” he said.
In a brief statement, Tychikos expressed gratitude to the medical staff, clergy, and supporters who prayed for his recovery. “I thank God and all of you who stood by me. I also pray for everyone, especially for Paphos, which I love,” he said.
