Authorities in Cyprus have seized four kilograms of cocaine in liquid form, marking the first recorded case of its kind on the island.
The drugs were discovered during an inspection at Larnaca Airport on Tuesday as part of ongoing cooperation between the Cyprus Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) and Customs officials aimed at intercepting illegal narcotics entering the country.
A 65-year-old passenger arriving from abroad was selected for a search by customs officers following information provided by YKAN investigators. During the examination of his luggage, officers found ten packages containing a suspicious liquid substance concealed inside cosmetic containers.
Subsequent testing confirmed that the liquid was cocaine with a total gross weight of four kilograms.
The man was arrested on the spot and remains in custody while investigators continue their inquiries into the case.
According to police, this is the first time such a quantity of liquid cocaine has been detected in Cyprus. The investigation is being handled by YKAN's Larnaca District Unit.
