A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening at the Technical School in Paphos, leading to the arrest of four 17-year-olds in connection with the death of their peer. Police are investigating the death as a case of reckless or dangerous behavior that may have led to the fatal outcome.
Around 6:40 PM, emergency services were called to the school after a young person lost consciousness. Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the 17-year-old, a Paphos resident, unresponsive. Despite doctors' best efforts, the teenager passed away at approximately 8:30 PM at Paphos General Hospital.
Following the incident, police quickly arrived at the school and located the four other 17-year-olds who had been present when the tragedy occurred. During their search, authorities found vials typically used for filling lighters on the building's roof, which they took as evidence.
According to police sources, there are strong indications that the 17-year-old who died may have inhaled gas from these vials. Investigators are also exploring the possibility that drugs were involved, potentially mixed with the gas.
The four teenagers were arrested to assist with the ongoing investigation. Police are working to determine if the group played any role in supplying the gas to the deceased or if he obtained it on his own.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted on the young man’s body to determine the exact cause of death.
At this stage, the police investigation is still underway, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
