Girl's mom furious at predator priest’s sentence

Greek court hands down suspended sentence to Cypriot priest for sexually pursuing high school girl

The mother of a 14-year-old girl in Greece was furious this week after a court handed down a suspended sentence to a priest from Cyprus, with reports saying he even traveled to Larissa to meet the teen.

According to Greek media, a priest based in the Republic of Cyprus got a suspended three year sentence after a three member misdemeanor court in Larissa found him guilty of sex-related offences.

The 52-year-old priest was pursuing the teenager online and even sent her a photo with inappropriate sexual content

Local media said the 52-year-old priest was pursuing the teenager from Cyprus online and even sent the girl a photo described as an image with inappropriate sexual content.

The judges found the priest guilty on charges related to grooming a child or young person under 15 for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.

Based on details heard in court, the priest had also been calling on the girl to leave her family and move with him to Cyprus, where they could have a life together.

The mother of the young girl reportedly was furious when she heard the three-year prison sentence would be suspended for three years, saying impunity should not be tolerated.

Media reports said the prest has also been ordered to pay damages to the tune of €10,800.

It was not immediately clear whether the priest was facing additional charges.
