Government expands subsidized electricity rates for vulnerable households

New categories include low-income pensioners and single-parent families starting December 1, 2024

Newsroom

The Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) announced an important update regarding its special household tariff for vulnerable consumers, known as Code 08. Beginning December 1, 2024, two additional groups will qualify for the reduced electricity rates, following a decision by the Minister of Energy, Trade, and Industry on November 28.

New Beneficiary Categories

The expanded eligibility now includes:
1. Low-Income Pensioners receiving an allowance from the Welfare Allowance Management Service under the State Ministry of Social Welfare.
2. Single-Parent Families who are entitled to the Single Parent Family Allowance in addition to the Child Allowance, also managed by the Welfare Benefits Management Service.

Application Process

Eligible customers can apply for the tariff if the electricity bill is in their name or if another household member living permanently with them qualifies as a beneficiary.

The EAC has made the application form available on its official website. Those interested can download the form and submit it to claim the special rate.

Supporting Vulnerable Groups

This decision underscores Cyprus’s commitment to supporting vulnerable segments of its population. By easing energy costs, the government aims to provide much-needed financial relief to those most affected by economic challenges.

Residents who believe they qualify are encouraged to act promptly to benefit from these changes, ensuring they have the necessary documentation to complete the process.
