In a significant move towards sustainable practices, Mr. Alexis Vafeadis, the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works, recently accepted a fleet of electric vehicles from Michaels Automotive Ltd.
The initiative, part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, aims to combat greenhouse gas emissions and enhance air quality by introducing 40 electric vehicles to various Ministries, Departments, and Public Sector Agencies.
The procurement process, led by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works, reflects a commitment to the European Union's decarbonization goals.
This endeavor aligns with the Republic of Cyprus' target of incorporating clean light vehicles, comprising 31.9% of all public and wider public sector vehicle acquisitions by December 2025.
The Department of Electromechanical Services, overseeing the open tender process, emphasizes the significance of the purchase in advancing environmental objectives.
Additionally, plans are underway to install charging points in relevant departments and services to support the integration of these eco-friendly vehicles into the daily operations of the public sector.
This strategic move not only addresses environmental concerns but also marks a transformative step towards a more sustainable and greener future for Cyprus' public sector.
