The family of Greek heiress Marissa Laimou is mourning the sudden loss of the 28-year-old, who was found dead in her London apartment after being bitten by an insect, her mother said.
“She was bitten by an insect,” Bessie Laimou told Greek publication Parapolitika on Sept. 13. “She was itchy, she went to the doctor, she took antibiotics, she ate, she slept, and she never woke up.”
Marissa, head of the luxury fashion marketing company Rainbow Wave, reportedly began feeling dizzy and itchy several days before her death, symptoms her family said indicated an infection. She sought medical care at two separate hospitals but was sent home with antibiotics, according to reports.
On Sept. 12, her housekeeper discovered her body in her London apartment, the family said.
“My girl left for nothing,” Bessie Laimou, Marissa’s mother, said, expressing her grief over the sudden loss.
Marissa had recently been active professionally and personally, and her unexpected death has left family, friends, and colleagues in shock.
