Limassol’s General Hospital has rolled out a separate waiting area just for children at its emergency department, the first step toward a full pediatric ER that’s set to open in the coming months.
Health Minister Michalis Damianou toured the new space Friday, chatting with doctors and calling the project part of the government’s priority to improve health services for vulnerable groups, especially kids.
The new pediatric ER will be staffed only by pediatricians and include exam rooms designed for infants and teens, plus short-stay beds for children who need monitoring.
“The experience in Nicosia showed us this works, and we’re optimistic Limassol will see the same benefits for both our young patients and their families,” Damianou said.
He added that the Christodoulides government is putting money into staff, equipment, and infrastructure to make sure hospitals can deliver better and faster care. Emergency services are a main focus, he said, with upgrades to pediatric ERs and fast-track clinics across the country.
OKYPY president Marinos Kallis said around 120 patients walk into Limassol’s emergency department every day, about 15 of them children under 16. The new facilities, he said, will mean “better service for the people of Limassol.”
