As planned by the Cyprus Health Services Organization (SHSO), work to upgrade and expand the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department at Nicosia General Hospital will begin on Monday. This project is part of the ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services.
According to an announcement from SHSO, the project includes extensive improvements to both infrastructure and equipment, with the goal of enhancing the quality of patient care. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, "ensuring a modern, fully equipped A&E that will meet the growing needs of the population."
It is noted that, during the construction, a central entrance for patients and ambulances will remain operational, and the waiting area will have 12-15 seats. The number of examination beds will remain unchanged.
The project includes the expansion and redesign of the A&E, which will feature the addition of a short-stay ward. It also involves the renovation and replacement of flooring, suspended ceilings, lighting, internal and external doors, as well as thermal insulation of external walls. Further improvements will include the upgrading of the patient entrance, an enhanced waiting area with more seating, and the creation of additional restroom facilities.
Other planned upgrades include the renovation of the reception area and archives, the establishment of specialized examination rooms, the enhancement of the trauma resuscitation area, redesigned and improved patient bathrooms, a dedicated space for informing relatives, redesigned staff work and rest areas, and new storage spaces for medicines and supplies.
“The upgrading of the A&E Department at Nicosia General Hospital is another important step in improving healthcare services and will contribute to the effective and faster handling of emergency cases,” the statement said.
The project is also part of SHSO’s broader strategy to modernize public hospitals, demonstrating its commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services.
SHSO assures that every effort will be made to minimize any disruptions and maintain the uninterrupted operation of the department.
“The public’s understanding and cooperation are vital to ensure the project is completed as quickly and safely as possible, for the benefit of all,” the announcement concluded.
