Drivers trying to get through the Linopetra roundabout on Saturday found themselves stuck in a wedding procession’s traffic jam as a race car slid sideways across the junction. On Tuesday, the groom and his best man were expected in court after being arrested in connection with the stunt.
Limassol traffic police chief Marios Charalambous told Alpha that the two men described the stunt as a spur-of-the-moment lapse in judgment and said they realized only afterward how serious it was. He said further arrests were possible Tuesday.
A video posted online with the caption “Just Married” shows the race car drifting around the roundabout as fireworks go off and vehicles block access to the junction. Police are looking for the car and trying to identify the drivers who blocked the road.
Police are investigating possible offenses, including dangerous driving, blocking a public road without permission, and obstructing traffic. Charalambous said officers had also received reports of similar stunts elsewhere in Limassol but had yet to confirm them.
