Authorities in Cyprus detained 50 foreign nationals on Saturday as part of a coordinated nationwide immigration sweep, police said.
The operation was carried out by the Aliens and Immigration Service (AIS) along with the Sub-Directorate for Green Line Surveillance and Management of Migration Flows.
Police said 23 of those detained are scheduled to be deported to their countries of origin later in the day. Repatriation procedures have begun for the remaining individuals.
Authorities said efforts to identify and deport individuals residing illegally in Cyprus are ongoing. Since the beginning of the year, 5,110 people have been repatriated, compared to 4,430 during the same period last year.
