Heads-up, drivers: Key route to Larnaca Airport shut for roadworks

Drivers urged to plan ahead as major motorway sections near Rizoelia roundabout close overnight for maintenance

Newsroom

Planning a late-night drive to Larnaca Airport? You might want to rethink your route. Sections of the Larnaca–Famagusta and Nicosia–Larnaca motorways will be closed overnight from Wednesday evening, June 4, as road maintenance gets underway near the Rizoelia roundabout in Aradippou.

The closures will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. Wednesday until 5:30 a.m. Thursday, and again Thursday night into early Friday morning, June 6.

What’s Closed:

  • The Larnaca-bound lanes of the Famagusta–Larnaca motorway, from the Rizoelia underpass to the Aradippou exit (approx. 3 km).
  • The entrance to the Larnaca Airport motorway from the Rizoelia roundabout.
  • Both closures affect traffic heading toward Larnaca Airport, including from Ayia Napa, Paralimni, and Nicosia.

What to Expect:

  • Traffic from the closed lanes will be diverted to the opposite side of the motorway, which will be operating with two-way traffic during the works.
  • Vehicles traveling from Nicosia toward the airport will be rerouted through Aradippou and central Larnaca, using Akropoleos and Eleftherias avenues, before rejoining the motorway via Ellados Avenue.

Police Advice:

Police are urging drivers to:

  • Slow down,
  • Keep a safe distance, and
  • Follow all temporary signs and detours in the work zone.

The roadworks are part of scheduled road surface maintenance and are necessary to keep the motorway in good shape.

If you’re heading to the airport or commuting during these hours, leave early and plan ahead to avoid delays.
