Health Ministry announces 434 new cases

The Health Ministry announced 434 cases on Friday, when 51,301 tests were conducted, marking a positivity rate of 0.85%. Total cases reached 45,864.

No coronavirus fatalities were recorded, with the death toll remaining stable at 256.

99 of the new cases were primary contacts, two were airport arrivals, 84 were people who took the initiative to get tested, 14 were tested at a general hospital, one was tested either upon the referral of their GP or as part of a special health group, while five were tested via rapid test at private labs and pharmacies.

Among new cases, 229 involved people who tested positive to a rapid test. A majority of 86 were detected in Limassol, followed by Nicosia where 65 people tested positive, while 32 tested positive in Larnaca, 13 in Paphos, and four in Famagusta. One more was detected at the Ipsonas industrial area, two more at the Ayios Athanasios industrial area, and another at the Mesogi industrial area. Another 24 involved school staff or students, while one more was a member of the National Guard.

Cyprus hospitals are currently treating 176 coronavirus patients, of which 43 are in critical condition.

48 patients are in the Famagusta general hospital, five of which are in the ICU. The Nicosia general hospital is also treating 52 patients, 26 of which are in the ICU. 49 more coronavirus patients are at the Limassol general hospital where six are in the ICU, nine are in Larnaca, 15 are in Paphos, while three are at the Makarios hospital in Nicosia.
