A young biker was killed in a violent crash in Larnaca district on Saturday when his high-powered motorcycle veered off the road outside Kalavasos, with police asking members of the public to share any information about the incident.
Local media said 21-year-old Yiorgos Sofocleous from Zygi was riding his motorcycle along the Zygi-Kalavasos road on Saturday night around 9:55pm when he got involved in an accident.
Reports said Sofocleous was moving northbound when he lost control of the handlebars, some 400 meters before the Kalavasos roundabout, with the large-displacement motorcycle veering off course.

It was not fully clear whether Sofocleous died at the scene while the report said the biker was fatally wounded and rushed by ambulance to the Emergency Room at Larnaca General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Additional reports said the motorcycle caught fire and was totally destroyed. The biker was also said not to have been wearing his protective helmet at the time of the crash.
Police have not said if investigators believed the road fatality was the result of a lone crash or if they were eye witnesses at the scene.
Authorities have called on members of the public to come forward with any details they may have regarding the accident.
