A Larnaca resident was rushed to the hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in his second-floor apartment on Monday morning. The real hero of the day? A quick-thinking passerby who forced his way inside to rescue the trapped occupant and even attempted to contain the flames with a fire extinguisher.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the blaze erupted in the living room of the apartment, causing extensive damage. Smoke and heat also affected the rest of the residence.
Emergency services were alerted at 8:29 a.m., with two fire trucks dispatched to the scene. Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, managed to fully extinguish the flames using water hoses.
The rescued resident was transported by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital as a precaution due to smoke inhalation. Authorities, including the Fire Department and Police, are now investigating the cause of the fire.
While the incident left a trail of damage, the swift action of a courageous bystander may have prevented a far worse outcome.
