Authorities in Cyprus are working behind closed doors to investigate a threatening message sent to President Nikos Christodoulides. While details remain scarce, the President himself confirmed the threat, emphasizing that he has full confidence in law enforcement to handle the case.

Police Keeping Tight-Lipped

When asked about the investigation, Police Spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou stated that the case is being actively pursued in coordination with relevant state services. However, she declined to provide further details, citing the sensitivity of the matter.

All Eyes on Central Prison

From the moment the threat was reported, authorities turned their attention to the Central Prison, where a search of a specific cell took place in the early hours of Friday, January 31. Prison guards and a large team of police officers took part in the operation.

During the search, officials confiscated a television and a personal notebook from the inmate’s cell. Meanwhile, a mobile phone and charger were discovered in a staff restroom, raising further questions about how communication devices might be circulating within the prison.

Who Sent the Threat?

While police have not officially confirmed the suspect, reports suggest the message may have been sent by a prisoner currently serving time for usurping Greek Cypriot property in the occupied territories. Interestingly, the message was not sent via a mobile phone but through a social media platform, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation.

What Happens Next?

With authorities keeping a tight lid on developments, it’s unclear what the next steps will be. However, the focus on prison security and illicit communications behind bars is likely to intensify. For now, investigators remain on high alert as they work to uncover who was behind the threat and how it was carried out.
